Texas traffic accident - live: As the number of fatalities grows, driver George Alvarez gets accused

Local resident George Alvarez, 34, has been identified by Brownsville, Texas, police as the person suspected of ramming an SUV into a gathering of migrants waiting for buses outside of a migrant shelter on Sunday morning.

Earlier, Texas congressman Henry Cuellar shared a shocking security camera video that showed the moment Alvarez's grey Ranger Rover plowed into the crowd outside the city's Bishop Enrique San Pedro Ozanam Center as it was traveling along North Minnesota Avenue toward Boca Chica Boulevard.

Officials first claimed that the incident, which killed seven individuals, looked to be intentional. However, an eighth victim later on Sunday passed away from their injuries in the hospital. Hospitalized were at least nine more people.

Men from Venezuela made up the majority of the deaths; they had spent the night at the shelter and were about to board a bus to head back to downtown Brownsville.

The driver was also brought to the hospital, and the police later referred to him as being "very uncooperative," noting that they knew him and that he had a long history of criminal activity.
